At Wheatland Salem Church, we are deeply grateful that over the years we have developed direct, personal relationships with partners in Haiti that allow us, in these tragic days, to have direct, personal impact there. We have ongoing relationships with two ministries in Haiti: Lazarus Project and the Grace House of Hope orphanage directed by Marie Major.

Here’s how you can help:
Immediately
On Sunday, January 17th, we reached $28,293 in a special offering that will go directly to Lazarus Project under the direction of Debbie Berquist and Marie Major for the needs at the orphanage and its children. This offering and additional online offerings received this week will support basic immediate needs like food, temporary shelter, clothing and help with the costs of burials. Our relationships there will help get the funds directly and quickly to some of those who need them most. We are still accepting donations!

Hearts For Haiti
On Sunday, February 14th we took a special offering called Hearts for Haiti. We filled a truck to with supplies that will be sent to Haiti and distributed by The Lazarus Project and Marie Major. It took several additional cars to get all of the donations to our temporary storage location in Chicago. More details are forthcoming as we attempt to secure a shipping container and a way to transport the goods to Haiti.
Getting Our Hands Dirty
We had already planned on at least two short-term teams to go to Haiti this year. We are considering increasing the number of people and teams to go in 2010 as we develop ways for the teams to be productive and safe while they are there to assist with reconstruction and restoration. More on this later.
